Ken Paxton campaign cancels Alamo event ahead of Election Day
Ken Paxton's Senate campaign no longer plans an event at the Alamo on Nov. 2, shifting focus to other Texas locations.
Attorney General Ken Paxton's campaign for the U.S. Senate in Texas has canceled a previously scheduled event at the Alamo on the eve of Election Day, CBS News reported. The campaign has not publicly explained the change in plans.
On Monday, November 2, Paxton's schedule includes stops in Conroe and Allen, Texas, both far from San Antonio where the Alamo is located. The Allen event is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Central Time, making a subsequent appearance at the Alamo unlikely.
The campaign had announced a two-week bus tour across Texas called "Come and Take It," which was to conclude at the Alamo. The Alamo is a historic site and museum in San Antonio where political activities are prohibited, according to its website.
Paxton is running against Democrat James Talarico in a Senate race that CBS News ranks as a toss-up. Texas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1988, but recent polls show Talarico with a slight lead.
Former President Donald Trump, who endorsed Paxton in the primary, has been actively campaigning in Texas, holding rallies in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Lubbock earlier in October.
