OpenAI may rename data centers as ‘AI compute campuses’ amid PR push
OpenAI plans a post-midterm PR campaign including rebranding data centers and promoting AI standards, Axios reports.
OpenAI is considering rebranding its data centers as 'AI compute campuses' as part of a broader public relations effort, TechCrunch reported.
The company’s chief global affairs officer, Chris Lehane, told Axios that this PR push will follow the midterm elections, which Democrats are expected to win, and aims to influence the AI debate leading up to the 2028 presidential election.
Lehane discussed several initiatives OpenAI is promoting, including the establishment of AI 'speed limits,' empowering people through AI, and encouraging the U.S. to lead in developing global AI standards.
He also addressed the ongoing public debate about data centers, calling it 'good and healthy,' and emphasized that communities should hold companies accountable to ensure transformative benefits from such projects.
This rebranding effort reflects OpenAI's strategy to improve public perception of data centers, which have faced opposition, and to position AI as a central issue in future political discourse.
