‘La Bola Negra’ wins audience award at London Film Festival
The queer historical drama ‘La Bola Negra’ won the BFI London Film Festival Audience Award for best feature film.
The film ‘La Bola Negra,’ directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, won the BFI London Film Festival Audience Award for best feature film, according to Deadline, Hollywood Reporter, and Variety.
‘La Bola Negra’ is a queer historical drama inspired by the unfinished final work of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca and a play by Alberto Conejero. It tells the story of three generations of queer men connected through love and loss, set across the years 1932, 1937, and 2017, Variety reported.
The film stars Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, and Miguel Bernardeau, and had its London premiere on October 8, where it played to sold-out audiences, Variety noted. The filmmakers and stars attended the gala screening, Hollywood Reporter said.
‘La Bola Negra’ has also earned a nomination for best international independent film at the British Independent Film Awards ahead of its UK theatrical release, Variety added.
Grace Harper Brighouse’s documentary ‘Dependence’ won the London Film Festival Audience Award for Best British Discovery, as reported by Deadline and Hollywood Reporter.
The filmmakers expressed gratitude for the audience recognition, with Calvo and Ambrossi saying it was meaningful to receive this award and hoping more audiences will see the film when it releases in UK and Ireland cinemas on November 6, Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported.
