Netflix orders YA drama series 'Prep' based on Curtis Sittenfeld novel
Netflix has greenlit a series adaptation of Curtis Sittenfeld's bestselling novel 'Prep,' with Nicole Taylor as showrunner.
Netflix has given a straight-to-series order for 'Prep,' a young adult drama based on Curtis Sittenfeld's bestselling novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will be adapted and showrun by Nicole Taylor, known for creating the 2024 Netflix series 'One Day.'
The story centers on Lee Fiora, a scholarship student navigating life at a prestigious New England boarding school, dealing with issues of friendship, crushes, class, and social mobility, Variety reported. The novel was originally published in 2005 and received critical acclaim.
Nicole Taylor will executive produce alongside Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alix Taylor from Gloria Sanchez Productions, with Curtis Sittenfeld also serving as an executive producer, Deadline noted. Taylor expressed enthusiasm for adapting the novel, calling it her favorite and praising its depiction of adolescent self-consciousness and social challenges.
The project marks the first adaptation of one of Sittenfeld's novels to reach the screen. The series aims to explore themes of privilege, longing, and teenage angst through Lee Fiora's perspective, as highlighted by the involved producers.
Netflix's order reflects its ongoing expansion of young adult content, with 'Prep' joining its slate of YA dramas. The show's development is being closely watched by fans of the novel and the YA genre alike.
