The Monterey County Sheriff's Department confirmed that two teenage boys, ages 13 and 15, were found dead near Moss Landing State Beach following a shooting early Monday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The victims were identified as Salinas students Marco Antonio Perez, 15, and Nathaniel Flores, 13. Flores was days away from his 14th birthday and was a member of the Steinbeck Tigers Youth Football & Cheer program, which has set up a fundraiser to support his family with funeral and memorial expenses.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire on Jetty Road shortly before 2 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival, they discovered the two boys deceased and two other individuals injured, though authorities have not released details on the injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not confirmed if a possible party on the beach is connected to the shooting. Authorities are seeking information from the public to assist with the case.
