An 8-year-old boy attending the Barron Park 2026 Ice Skating Party at Winter Lodge in Palo Alto had his finger permanently severed when an unknown man allegedly skated over it, Palo Alto Online reported.

The boy's mother, Laylo Rubina, has filed a lawsuit against the California State PTA, the ice rink facility, and the city of Palo Alto, which owns Winter Lodge. The suit alleges negligence, reckless conduct, and failure to maintain safety at the rink.

Rubina initially attempted to pursue a claim against the city in May, but the City Attorney's office denied it, leading to the current legal action filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

The lawsuit alleges that the PTA admitted an unknown adult who skated recklessly at the event, which is linked to the incident.
