Local businesses offer Veterans Day deals for service members in DC area
Washington DC area veterans and active-duty military can get free meals and discounts on Veterans Day.
Veterans Day, observed annually on November 11, honors the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, originally commemorating the end of World War I on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, FOX 5 DC reported. The day became a federal holiday in 1938, and in 1954, legislation was signed to recognize all American veterans.
To thank veterans and active-duty military members for their service, many businesses in the Washington DC area are offering special deals and free meals on Veterans Day, according to FOX 5 DC.
For example, Applebee's is providing a special Veterans Day meal to veterans and active-duty military who dine in on November 11. To receive the offer, service members must show proof of military service such as a Uniformed Services ID Card, DD214, or a veterans organization card. The offer excludes beverages and gratuity and is limited to one meal per eligible individual.
Bar Louie is also offering a free burger to veterans and active-duty military on Veterans Day, FOX 5 DC noted. These offers are part of a broader effort to honor and thank military service members in the DC area for their sacrifices.
