CNN reported that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazil's current president, is competing in a runoff election against right-wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.

Lula, who was imprisoned for 580 days and released in 2019, has been a defining figure of Brazil's left for decades and is making his fourth and likely final run for the presidency.

The first round of voting in early October saw Lula finish behind Flávio Bolsonaro, with 45.16% of the vote compared to Bolsonaro's 47.03%, setting up a close and polarized runoff.

The race is marked by sharply different visions for Brazil's economy, security, and international relations, with Lula facing significant challenges including political polarization, new corruption investigations, and regional political shifts.

Despite these hurdles and his recent battle with cancer, Lula's long political career has included multiple comebacks, spanning Brazil's transition from military rule to democracy and various social and economic changes.
