A man is in critical condition after a Hall County deputy shot him following a vehicle pursuit and armed confrontation in Lumpkin County.
A 31-year-old man remains in critical condition after being shot multiple times by a Hall County deputy during a vehicle chase and armed confrontation in Lumpkin County, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) reported.
The incident began around 10 a.m. Friday in Dahlonega when law enforcement, including Hall County deputies, Lumpkin County deputies, and state drug agents, conducted a probation search linked to a theft investigation near Mincey Mountain Road. They found the man sitting inside a car on the property.
Hall County deputies attempted to arrest the man after discovering he had an active warrant. According to the GBI, he sped away, nearly hitting deputies and prompting a pursuit that ended along Emory Stephens Road near the county line.
After crashing, the man exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at deputies, leading a Hall County deputy to fire multiple shots. Deputies administered first aid until paramedics arrived, and the man was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities recovered a gun at the crash site. No deputies were injured, and the deputy who fired the shots has been placed on paid administrative leave. The Hall County Sheriff's Office has not released the deputy's name or further details about the incident.
