Man from Clearwater charged with threatening to shoot Trump at Kansas rally
A Clearwater man faces federal charges after making threats against President Trump on social media during a Kansas rally.
Federal prosecutors charged a 24-year-old man from Clearwater with making threats to shoot U.S. President Donald Trump during a political rally in Kansas, according to the Press Democrat.
Authorities acted after a Crime Stoppers tip led them to investigate Facebook posts on local TV news pages about the rally. The man allegedly commented on posts from two Kansas TV stations, KAKE and KWCH, with statements expressing intent to shoot the president.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said the man made four threatening comments between the two posts, including references to having mapped out rooftops around the rally location and possessing firearms and ammunition.
He was arrested in Clearwater on Saturday and remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
