A Maryland woman was indicted for allegedly submitting fraudulent Medicaid claims totaling over $109,000, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, as reported by FOX45 Baltimore.

The indictment alleges the woman worked as a community support worker for Family Wellness Center from 2022 to 2023, providing services to Medicaid beneficiaries in D.C. Prosecutors claim she billed for services that were never provided.

The investigation began after the D.C. Department of Health Care Finance reviewed claims following a Washington Post story about a man involved in a shooting. The woman had claimed to provide services to the man days before the incident but later altered her notes to deny contact.

Further inquiry revealed she allegedly failed to provide services to multiple beneficiaries and submitted falsified claims, prompting Medicaid payments exceeding $109,000 for unrendered services.

The woman faces 38 counts of fraud and theft, including 36 first-degree felonies. The case was investigated by the D.C. Office of the Inspector General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. A felony status conference is set for December 16, with no trial date yet scheduled.
