A 35-year-old man died after losing control on I-77 and being struck by vehicles in Iredell County.
A fatal crash occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 77 near Langtree Road in Mooresville, Iredell County, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old motorcyclist, WBTV reported.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and WSOC-TV, the victim was riding a cruiser-style Kawasaki when a tire failure caused him to lose control and flip in the southbound toll lane around 6:10 a.m.
After the crash, the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and struck by an oncoming SUV, while a tractor-trailer also hit the motorcycle, WBTV said.
Initial investigations suspected a hit-and-run, but a review of toll lane and dashcam footage found no evidence of other vehicles involved beyond those identified, according to WBTV.
The crash led to lane closures on I-77 for several hours during the investigation and cleanup, impacting traffic in the area.
