Panthers fire defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero after second straight loss
Carolina Panthers have replaced defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero amid injury challenges and recent defeats.
The Carolina Panthers have fired their defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley following the team's second consecutive loss, a 27-19 defeat to the Green Bay Packers, WFAE reported.
The Panthers' defense has been significantly impacted by injuries this season, especially in the secondary. Starting cornerbacks Mike Jackson and Jaycee Horn were sidelined, and the team ended Thursday's game with third-string cornerbacks after another injury occurred.
Defensive line coach Todd Wash has been named interim defensive coordinator and will assume play-calling duties. Wash brings 31 years of coaching experience, including 20 seasons in the NFL, according to WFAE.
The Panthers currently hold a 3-4 record this season. After a tough 59-37 loss to the Chicago Bears in the season opener, the team showed signs of progress before suffering back-to-back heavy losses: 43-13 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then to the Packers.
The team is off this weekend and will return to play on November 8 when they host the Denver Broncos at home in Charlotte.
