Open Real Estate, a new national residential real estate data-sharing initiative, is targeting a first-quarter 2027 launch, according to HousingWire. The initiative is a joint effort by AGNT Inc., HomeServices of America, Keller Williams Realty, and Real REMAX Group, aiming to streamline property information distribution and expand housing inventory access.

The founding members emphasized that Open Real Estate is not a replacement for local Multiple Listing Services (MLSs) but will work alongside them. Listings can be entered directly into Open Real Estate or through local MLSs, which will then share the data with portals, other sites, and Open Real Estate itself.

The platform will offer a single input system for agents from the founding companies, with a user interface available for brokerages lacking that capability. The leaders believe this approach will facilitate smoother cooperation with MLSs and portals while maintaining local governance by MLSs, which remain responsible for local rules and regulations.

Open Real Estate was created in response to concerns about homes being marketed privately outside public listing systems, which can reduce competition and transparency. The initiative seeks to promote broad access to listing information, ensuring buyers have comprehensive housing options and sellers understand how their homes are marketed.

The project aims to build a shared, industry-led system that allows real estate professionals across all brands and locations to enter listing information once and distribute it widely. This approach is intended to benefit consumers by increasing choice and supporting a more open and competitive housing marketplace.
