Joe Shaffer, a farmer from Pikesville, had just welcomed his newborn daughter Josie when he received a call that one of his calves had escaped onto Interstate 695, according to The Baltimore Banner.

Shaffer and his staff raise animals and sell organic produce and honey. The calf, about 8 months old, was spotted trotting in the right lane of I-695, causing traffic to slow down.

After speaking with his farmhand and Baltimore County Police, Shaffer drove to the Beltway and navigated through traffic to find the cow. He used a side-by-side vehicle to corner and hold the roughly 500-pound animal until officers arrived with rope and a trailer.

Police and Shaffer's business partner helped secure the cow, and officers expressed relief and excitement at the successful capture, The Baltimore Banner reported.
