Ravens place Lamar Jackson on injured reserve after thumb injury
Lamar Jackson will have thumb surgery and is likely out for the season, leaving Ravens with quarterback depth concerns.
The Baltimore Ravens will place quarterback Lamar Jackson on injured reserve after he suffered a thumb injury on his throwing hand during the first offensive play against the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple reports including Yahoo Sports and ESPN.
Jackson's injury occurred as he attempted a pass to receiver Zay Flowers but his hand struck a Bills linebacker. He left the game immediately and will undergo surgery, with Ravens coach Jesse Minter indicating the injury could be season-ending.
Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley also exited the game with a toe injury, leaving undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano as the only healthy quarterback on the roster. Fagnano completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards in relief.
The Ravens have struggled recently, losing four of six games and sitting last in the AFC North. Jackson's absence adds to concerns about the team's playoff hopes and quarterback depth as they prepare to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.
Coach Minter said the team will evaluate the quarterback situation over the next 24 hours, but Jackson's surgery and placement on injured reserve mean he will miss at least four weeks, with the possibility of being out for the remainder of the season.
