Richmond students explore careers with CBS 6 anchor at J.L. Francis Elementary
CBS 6's GeNienne Samuels joined local professionals to give Richmond students hands-on career experiences.
Students at J.L. Francis Elementary School in Richmond had the opportunity to explore future career possibilities during a recent Career Day event, WTVR CBS 6 reported.
CBS 6 anchor GeNienne Samuels brought elements of the newsroom to the school, including a teleprompter and microphone, allowing students to try roles such as news anchor, meteorologist, and sports reporter. Many students experienced reading from a teleprompter and delivering news for the first time.
The event featured professionals from various fields including dentistry, landscaping, firefighting, EMS, and antique car restoration, who shared insights about their careers and the paths they took to reach them, according to WTVR.
Samuels engaged with students across nearly every grade level, and the day included memorable moments like a spontaneous singing of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" by younger students.
Richmond Breathe Free Sinus & Allergy Centers sponsored the event, supporting the goal of providing students with exposure to a wide range of career options in the Richmond area.
