Sen. Jon Husted, a Republican from Ohio, is campaigning to retain his Senate seat against former Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is seeking a congressional return, according to kfoxtv.com and wgxa.tv.

In interviews with The National News Desk, Husted called for ending the war in Iran on terms favorable to the United States and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting national security priorities.

Husted also focused on affordability issues, noting the rising construction of data centers and their impact on the cost of living. He emphasized that local authorities should decide on data center projects.

He referenced the Ratepayer Protection Act, which passed the House but was rejected by the Senate. The bill would have required data centers to pay for their own power and infrastructure costs, aiming to protect utility ratepayers.

Husted criticized Democrats for shutting down refineries, which he linked to affordability challenges. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer described the proposed regulations as a "toothless standard."

The debate reflects differing views between Republicans, who oppose mandates on data centers, and Democrats, who support regulatory standards to address rising utility costs tied to data centers.
