The SF Market, located in the Bayview district, operates six nights a week and serves as a vital wholesale produce center for San Francisco and the wider Bay Area, the SF Standard reported. Truckloads of fruits and vegetables arrive around 11 p.m., including seasonal items like persimmons, Brussels sprouts, leeks, and beans from over 350 regional farmers.

By early morning, the market becomes a bustling hub where nearly two dozen merchants and more than 500 employees supply fresh produce to thousands of restaurants, grocers, caterers, and corner stores across the region. This market has been operating on city-owned land in Bayview for 63 years and traces its origins back to the 1870s.

In addition to supporting local food businesses, the SF Market donates over 4,000 pounds of produce daily to 15 nonprofits, contributing to community food access. The market is now preparing for an expansion to continue its role as a key ingredient supplier for the city’s food ecosystem.
