SFUSD to address hate speech and plan Afro-centric school after NAACP talks
San Francisco Unified School District commits to enforcing hate speech policies and exploring an Afro-centric school.
San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has pledged to take stronger actions against hate speech following discussions with the San Francisco NAACP, KRON4 reported.
The NAACP's San Francisco President Emeritus Amos Brown said the district's superintendent has committed to enforcing existing board policies on hate-motivated behavior and hate speech to improve safety for all students.
Additionally, the superintendent agreed to seek funding to establish an Afro-centric school within the district, aiming to provide a quality academic experience focused on Black and brown communities, according to KRON4.
This development comes after the NAACP called for more concrete measures rather than just dialogue on addressing hate speech in schools.
The district's next steps include securing financing for the new school and implementing the enforcement of hate speech policies to create a safer environment for students.
