Special marine warning in effect for Biscayne Bay and nearby coastal waters until 10:45 AM
NWS Miami warns of waterspouts and strong winds in Biscayne Bay and coastal waters through 10:45 AM, advising caution for boaters.
The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Special Marine Warning for Biscayne Bay and coastal waters from Deerfield Beach to Ocean Reef extending 20 nautical miles offshore. This alert is in effect until 10:45 AM EST today, according to the NWS Miami office.
At 10:20 AM EST, radar detected a severe thunderstorm over Miami Beach moving west at 10 knots. This storm is capable of producing waterspouts and wind gusts up to 40 knots, the NWS reported.
The warning covers areas including Sunny Isles, Key Biscayne, Cape Florida, Virginia Key, Bay Harbor Islands, Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, Golden Beach, Surfside, Coral Gables, North Bay Village, Indian Creek, and Hallandale.
Waterspouts pose a risk of overturning boats and creating hazardous sea conditions. The NWS advises that small craft could be damaged by briefly higher winds and sudden waves, urging mariners to exercise caution and avoid the affected areas until the warning expires.
