Square Pie Guys, a Detroit-style pizzeria known for its thick, crunchy crusts with caramelized cheese edges, is closing its Palo Alto Cal Ave location after just one year of operation, Palo Alto Online reported.

The restaurant will serve its last customers this Friday, marking the end of its presence in Palo Alto. The founder, Marc Schechter, acknowledged the short tenure but said the team gave their best effort.

While the Palo Alto location saw good catering business, its dinnertime and weekend patronage was very slow, which contributed to the decision to close, according to Schechter.

Square Pie Guys will continue to operate its other locations in San Francisco, Oakland, Campbell, and Walnut Creek, maintaining its footprint in the Bay Area.
