Trial continues in Manassas Park murder case with new forensic testimony
Prosecutors present blood and DNA evidence in trial over missing Manassas Park woman presumed murdered.
The murder trial of Naresh Bhatt, accused in the disappearance of his wife Mamta Kafle Bhatt in July 2024, advanced with new forensic testimony, WTOP reported.
Forensic analyst Iris Dalley Graff described blood patterns inside the family home, including blood found beneath a bathtub and on a reciprocating saw, suggesting possible cleaning of evidence. Another forensic expert, Susan Greenspoon, testified that DNA from a carpet stain matched contributions from the couple’s daughter and Mamta’s hairbrush, though defense attorneys questioned the conclusions drawn from this evidence.
Mamta’s brother, Mahesh Kafle, testified about his sister’s distress before her disappearance, recalling a message where she said, “I am not safe,” and that she had not eaten for two days. A longtime friend of the couple, Mandira Shrestha, testified that Bhatt had discussed divorce and expressed unwillingness to share property with Mamta.
The trial continues as prosecutors aim to prove Bhatt’s guilt, contrasting with defense challenges on the evidence’s interpretation.
This case remains closely watched in the Manassas Park and greater DC area due to its serious charges and ongoing legal proceedings.
