Two people died in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 westbound in Henrico County Sunday morning, Virginia State Police confirmed to WTVR CBS 6.

The crash happened just before Exit 181B at Parham Road when a 2016 Nissan Rogue ran off the road, went down an embankment, overturned, and caught fire, according to the preliminary investigation by state police.

Both occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene around 6:30 a.m. Investigators are working to identify the victims, and the Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The crash caused significant traffic delays on I-64 westbound. The Virginia Department of Transportation reported that the west center lane, right lane, and right shoulder near mile marker 182.2 remain closed, with backups extending about 1.5 miles.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the incident. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
