Federal authorities announced the arrest of more than 20 foreign nationals across California in a voter fraud crackdown, FOX40 reported.

Among those arrested were two residents of Sacramento, highlighting the local impact of the federal operation.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta responded by stating the arrests contradict claims of widespread voter fraud made by the president, according to FOX40.

Bonta described the arrests as a 'drop in the bucket,' suggesting the issue is not as extensive as portrayed by federal officials.

The operation has intensified the debate over illegal voting in California, a topic that has become a federal government focus, FOX40 noted.
