Walmart is planning to construct a new distribution center in Cibolo, Texas, with a size of over 744,000 square feet, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation document reported by Supply Chain Dive.

The investment for this facility is estimated at $400 million, which includes office space. Groundbreaking is expected in February, with the project slated for completion by August 1, 2029.

This move follows Walmart's earlier statements about supply chain spending peaking over the next two years and its ongoing efforts to automate its distribution network to improve operational efficiency and reduce shipping costs.

While the document did not specify if automation technology will be part of the new center, Walmart has been active in expanding and upgrading its fulfillment network, including a recent 900,000-square-foot center in Stockton, California, and plans for a 1.5-million-square-foot facility in Georgia.

In Texas, Walmart is also remodeling another distribution center with updates to electrical systems and material handling, indicating a broader strategy to enhance its supply chain infrastructure.
