Central Avenue near Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg has experienced a surge in activity ahead of the first Rays home game in the World Series, WUSF reported. The area is bustling not only with Rays supporters but also with Milwaukee Brewers fans who found it more affordable to travel to St. Petersburg than to attend games in Milwaukee.

Employees at local hotels like the Moxy St. Petersburg Downtown have noticed a significant increase in stays since the Rays secured a playoff spot. Sophie Lenzie, a front desk worker there, highlighted the lively atmosphere and playful rivalries between the two fan groups.

Nearby eateries are also benefiting from the influx. Casa Origen Farm Kitchen, a recently opened restaurant, reported increased foot traffic from baseball fans seeking healthier food options than typical ballpark fare. Other local restaurants have similarly observed a rise in customers.

Kenneth Hoyumpa, co-owner of Grassroots Kava House in the Edge District, said his business has seen more visitors, especially for coffee before and after games. He expressed hope that the Rays will extend the series to maximize the number of games and visitors in St. Petersburg.

Sophie Lenzie also mentioned that the Tropicana Field roof had been repaired after damage from Hurricane Milton, which is a positive development for the venue.

As the series continues, local businesses remain optimistic about sustained patronage from both Rays and visiting Brewers fans, reinforcing the event's significance for St. Petersburg's economy.
