The drowning death of 9-year-old King Overton at SwimRVA North in Henrico County has been ruled accidental, according to a final report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, WRIC 8News and NBC12 reported.

King Overton died at the SwimRVA facility on North Wilkinson Road on June 15. A lawsuit alleges that King was underwater for at least 13 minutes before a 7-year-old girl noticed him and alerted an adult, who then pulled him from the water, NBC12 reported.

The Henrico Police Department said detectives continue to consult with the Chesterfield County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, which was appointed as a special prosecutor following a request from Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor.

King’s family stated that his mother informed the camp both verbally and in writing on the day of the incident that King did not know how to swim. Attorney Ben Crump commented on the family's pain, emphasizing the tragedy of the loss.

The investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing as authorities continue to review the case.
