E-bikes and e-scooters have become a common mode of transportation in San Francisco, but an increase in injuries and reports of riders using sidewalks has raised safety concerns, KRON4 reported.

Riders are required to use streets or designated bike lanes rather than sidewalks, but when these rules are ignored, pedestrians can be at risk, according to KRON4.

To address this issue, a company is deploying artificial intelligence-powered cameras aimed at identifying and reducing e-scooter riding on sidewalks in San Francisco, KRON4 said.

A local resident described an incident where she was hit by an electric scooter while walking her dogs on the sidewalk, highlighting the safety risks involved, KRON4 added.
