Airbnb announced it will introduce an AI travel agent in the first half of 2027, according to its Q3 2026 shareholder letter reported by The Verge and TechCrunch.

The company aims to create an AI-native trip-planning experience that goes beyond simple chatbots, using a custom interface designed specifically for travel needs.

Airbnb's CEO Brian Chesky explained that unlike general-purpose AI agents that handle routine tasks, their agent will support the aspirational and interactive nature of travel planning, including exploring options, comparing homes, and making decisions with travel companions.

The AI agent will use a variety of travel-specific interface elements such as maps, photos, comparisons, calendars, and itineraries to provide a richer experience than a traditional chat window, allowing users to take action directly within Airbnb.

This development reflects Airbnb's strategy to enhance the travel planning process by integrating AI technology tailored to travelers' preferences and behaviors, as noted in the company's shareholder communications.
