FOX 5 Atlanta reported that a car crashed into a building in downtown Athens on Wednesday morning near the intersection of East Broad Street and Jackson Street.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the active incident and closed East Broad Street between College Avenue and North Thomas Street to allow emergency crews to work safely.

The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department shared a photo of the building around 8:45 a.m., but the extent of any structural damage remains unconfirmed.

Authorities have not released details on the cause of the crash, whether there were any injuries, or if the building's stability or occupancy was affected.

Motorists are advised to avoid the closed section of East Broad Street and use alternate routes while emergency crews remain on scene. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
