Charlotte voters assess Trump’s 2024 campaign promises ahead of election
Charlotte-area voters will soon judge President Trump’s record on key 2024 campaign promises including immigration, economy, and foreign policy.
President Donald Trump campaigned for a second term in 2024 by promising to improve the U.S. economy, secure the southern border, and avoid new foreign wars, WBTV reported.
Trump has highlighted his efforts to tighten border security, claiming to have transformed the southern border into the safest in American history. This aspect of his record has received positive marks from voters, according to WBTV.
However, his economic management has drawn criticism, with low approval ratings partly due to tariffs known as ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs. Despite this, Trump fulfilled some economic promises such as eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security.
Trump also pledged to address affordability issues including car prices, housing, insurance, supply chains, and prescription drugs. Yet, gas prices have increased by 40% since he took office, influenced by global oil supply disruptions related to the conflict in Iran.
On foreign policy, Trump promised no new wars and to end the Ukraine-Russia conflict quickly. However, both the Iran conflict and the Ukraine-Russia war continue. Trump has recently indicated plans to engage with Cuba following his dealings in Iran.
Charlotte-area voters will soon decide how they view Trump’s fulfillment of these promises as election day approaches, WBTV noted.
