CMS superintendent search committee holds first meeting to plan process
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board begins planning superintendent search with community input focus.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) board has formed a four-person superintendent search committee, which held its first meeting to establish a process and timeline for finding a new superintendent, WFAE reported.
Board member Anna London, who chairs the committee, said members will review past superintendent searches to decide whether to keep or revise the process. The full board will oversee the process once the committee finalizes the plan.
London acknowledged divisions on the board following the recent 5-4 vote to fire former Superintendent Crystal Hill, but expressed hope the search process will help rebuild trust among board members, CMS staff, and the community.
The committee plans to engage extensively with CMS staff, parents, and students across the county to develop a profile of the ideal superintendent. London emphasized the importance of transparency and meaningful community involvement throughout the search.
The board is expected to hire a search firm to identify candidates who fit the developed profile. London said she hopes to find a superintendent with experience in a similar district who understands the district culture and can lead effectively.
Despite concerns about recent turmoil affecting recruitment, London reported hearing interest from potential candidates, indicating confidence in attracting qualified applicants.
