DUI suspect arrested after pursuit and crash in East LA
Los Angeles deputies arrested a man after a high-speed chase and crash involving a blue van in East Los Angeles.
Los Angeles County deputies and California Highway Patrol officers pursued a man suspected of reckless driving and driving under the influence on Wednesday morning, CBS News Los Angeles reported.
The chase began on the southbound 710 Freeway around 10:50 a.m. before the driver moved onto the westbound 10 Freeway. Authorities observed erratic driving as the suspect exited near Lincoln Heights and continued on city streets, frequently drifting onto the wrong side of the road.
Around 11:07 a.m., the driver sideswiped a truck on Eastern Avenue and Sheriff Road while attempting to pass on the right shoulder. The van then appeared to blow a front tire but continued to evade police.
A CHP officer performed a PIT maneuver that caused dozens of items to fall from the van’s trunk. The driver collided with an officer at least once more before the vehicle came to a stop with severe damage to the driver’s side. The man was pulled from the van and arrested with officers holding guns drawn.
