DeBary man charged with first-degree murder in wife's 2024 disappearance
Epifanio Gaminde faces first-degree murder charges after a year-long investigation into his wife's disappearance.
A man from DeBary has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with his wife's disappearance in 2024, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, as reported by both FOX 35 Orlando and WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando.
Maria Gaminde's family reported her missing after losing contact with her in January 2024. Her husband, Epifanio IX Ramos Gaminde, claimed she left their home voluntarily and was living overseas, but investigators grew suspicious when text messages from Maria appeared inauthentic.
The investigation expanded internationally, involving federal agencies and partners in Japan and the Philippines. Officials from the Volusia Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's Office for Florida's 7th Judicial Circuit traveled to the Philippines to gather evidence and conduct interviews.
Detectives uncovered evidence suggesting a deliberate effort to create the false impression that Maria was alive and avoiding contact with family, friends, and law enforcement. As of now, Maria Gaminde's body has not been found.
Epifanio Gaminde is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail and is also held on an immigration detainer issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Authorities have said more information will be released in the future.
