Drought conditions increase in Hertford County and surrounding areas
Drought severity has worsened in parts of northeastern North Carolina, including Hertford County, with rain expected Friday.
The latest Drought Monitor update on November 5th indicates that drought conditions have intensified in several areas of northeastern North Carolina, including portions of Hertford County, which is now classified under extreme drought status, WITN reported.
Severe drought has expanded to encompass most of Pitt, Martin, and Bertie counties, as well as all counties north of the Albemarle Sound. Coastal areas, previously drought-free, are now experiencing drought conditions.
The report noted that Craven, Pamlico, and Beaufort counties have been upgraded to moderate drought status. This marks a significant change from the October 15th Drought Monitor, which showed little to no extreme drought in Eastern North Carolina.
Residents in the region can expect some relief on Friday, November 6th, as a strong cold front is forecast to bring between half an inch to one inch of rain. However, a dry period is anticipated to follow from the weekend through the next week, according to WITN.
Local residents are encouraged to stay informed through resources like the WITN First Alert Weather App as conditions evolve.
