Expert shares Halloween trick-or-treating safety tips for local families
ECU Health expert advises parents to ensure children are visible and cautious while trick-or-treating this Halloween.
With Halloween approaching on Saturday, an expert from ECU Health's Safe Kids Program is urging families in the Elizabeth City area to prioritize safety during trick-or-treating, WITN reported.
Ellen Walston highlighted that Halloween is the most dangerous day of the year for pedestrians, especially children who may be excited and darting around. She emphasized the importance of children being seen by drivers to prevent accidents.
Walston recommended that children wear reflective clothing and that parents also wear reflective gear to increase visibility. She stressed the need for families to stick to sidewalks while trick-or-treating.
In addition, Walston advised caution around cars, encouraging both children and adults to watch carefully and make eye contact with drivers before crossing streets or walking near vehicles.
