Federal election monitors have been deployed to Alameda County as part of a nationwide effort to observe elections in all 50 states, CBS News Bay Area reported. The U.S. Department of Justice announced it will have about 1,000 monitors across the country to observe and report any potential violations of federal law during the elections.

Alameda County was one of four counties in California selected for this federal oversight, alongside Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Diego counties, according to CBS News Bay Area. The Registrar of Voters in Alameda County said officials have not been given a specific reason for the county's selection.

At various ballot drop-off locations in the Bay Area, including a drive-up collection site in Oakland, voters were actively submitting their ballots. Some voters expressed trust in the election system, while others voiced concerns due to recent claims of voter fraud, CBS News Bay Area reported.

The federal monitors' role is strictly observational; they will report any potential federal law violations to the Department of Justice for review after Election Day, according to CBS News Bay Area. This deployment aims to ensure transparency and integrity in the election process.
