First arrest made in 2017 Simi Valley rape case involving 'Scream' masks
Ventura County authorities arrested a suspect nearly a decade after a violent 2017 attack in Simi Valley.
Ventura County investigators recently made the first arrest in a cold case involving a 2017 sexual assault in Simi Valley, according to the Los Angeles Times. The case involved a group of men wearing Ghostface masks from the "Scream" horror franchise who attacked a woman as she walked to work around 4 a.m. on September 21, 2017.
The woman reported that the men wielded a knife during the attack. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of Ricardo Jimenez-Garcia, 39, who is accused of participating in the violent assault. He faces charges of rape and sodomy and has pleaded not guilty, according to court records.
The news release did not specify what new evidence led to the arrest, but the District Attorney’s Office has asked the public to provide any additional information about Jimenez-Garcia, the attack, or other potential victims. This development marks a significant step in resolving a case that has remained unsolved for nearly ten years.
