First flu-related death of the season reported in Sacramento County
Sacramento County Public Health reports first flu death this season; officials urge vaccination as cases rise.
Sacramento County Public Health officials confirmed the first influenza-related death of the season on Wednesday. The deceased was a woman in her 50s who had underlying medical conditions and was not vaccinated against the flu, according to the agency.
Health officials across the region are seeing an increase in flu cases as the holiday season approaches. Dr. Cameron Kaiser, acting Solano County Health Officer, emphasized that flu remains deadly and urged residents to get vaccinated, noting that vaccines are widely available.
Similar flu-related deaths have also been reported in neighboring counties. Solano County reported a death of a 64-year-old individual, and Stanislaus County confirmed a flu-associated death of a man under 65 years old this season.
Public health agencies recommend residents protect themselves by getting flu shots and following health guidelines to reduce the risk of illness and severe outcomes.
With flu cases expected to rise further during the holidays, Sacramento area health officials continue to stress the importance of vaccination and preventive measures to safeguard community health.
