The Premier League board is set to play a crucial role in determining the fate of Manchester City following the club's finding of guilt for breaching financial rules by an independent commission, BBC Sport reported.

While a three-person commission panel will ultimately decide on the sanction, the Premier League's submission will be considered alongside Manchester City's appeal, according to both BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports.

The possible sanctions under consideration include a fine, points deduction, expulsion from the league, or the stripping of past titles, though the timing of the sanction hearing remains unknown as per the reports.

The Premier League board responsible for recommending punishment consists of five individuals: the league's chair, chief executive, and three independent non-executive directors, with no club representatives to ensure neutrality, Yahoo Sports detailed.

The board's chair, Alison Brittain, who has been in her role for nearly four years, was persuaded to join the Premier League despite her background outside of sports, bringing skills from the hospitality and financial sectors, Yahoo Sports added.
