Flávio Bolsonaro arrives in US days after Brazil election defeat
Flávio Bolsonaro and his family were allowed entry and visas by the US State Department after his loss in Brazil's presidential runoff.
Flávio Bolsonaro, former Brazilian presidential candidate, has landed in the United States shortly after losing the presidential runoff election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, ABC News reported.
A senior official from the US State Department confirmed to ABC News that the department allowed Bolsonaro and his family to enter the US and issued them visas.
Brazilian authorities stated they were unaware of Bolsonaro's whereabouts earlier Tuesday and were investigating if he fled to the US, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
Bolsonaro is currently under investigation in Brazil related to a sports betting case and a probe into a film about his father, Jair Bolsonaro, Brazilian authorities said.
Two US officials told ABC News that the Trump administration had been monitoring Bolsonaro's plans and anticipated his attempt to leave Brazil for the US.
Separately, former US President Donald Trump commented on Brazil's election, claiming without evidence that it looked like a rigged election.
