Google is exploring the possibility of building a new data center campus in Goochland County’s West Creek Business Park, according to Richmond BizSense and WTVR CBS 6. The company is conducting due diligence on a roughly 1,000-acre site where it could develop a 1,200-megawatt facility.

The site is located within Goochland’s recently approved technology overlay district (TOD), which allows data center projects as a by-right use without requiring additional public hearings, Richmond BizSense reported. This could streamline the approval process if Google decides to proceed.

Currently, Google has not submitted any formal plans to the county. Goochland County officials confirmed that the next step after a land purchase would be site engineering and plan submission. The property is owned by entities connected to Pruitt Associates and Riverstone Group, who control much of the land in West Creek.

The project site would be bisected by Route 288 north of Patterson Avenue. This potential development is part of a broader interest by Google in expanding data center capacity in the Richmond region, as noted in regulatory filings earlier this year.

Local residents and stakeholders will be watching for further developments as Google completes its evaluation and decides whether to move forward with the project.
