San Francisco man killed in Tenderloin hit-and-run; no charges filed
Justin Randle, a Tenderloin safety monitor and father of three, died after being struck by a car; DA declined to press charges.
Justin Randle, a 25-year-old community service worker and father of three, was killed in a hit-and-run incident in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, where he worked as a safety monitor for over a year, Mission Local reported.
The collision occurred around 1:06 a.m. on Sunday. The driver, an adult woman, fled the scene before police arrived, according to the San Francisco Police Department statement shared with Mission Local.
Police later traced the vehicle to Treasure Island, where the California Highway Patrol had stopped it for an unrelated traffic violation. The driver was initially booked on murder charges but has since been released.
The San Francisco District Attorney's office declined to file charges against the driver, citing insufficient evidence to prove a criminal case beyond a reasonable doubt, including the possibility of self-defense, Mission Local reported.
Family members described Randle as a devoted father and a kind young man. His great-aunt highlighted his role as a supportive parent, especially since he grew up without a father himself.
Randle's work as a safety monitor involved greeting visitors at Glide, a community organization in the Tenderloin, reflecting his commitment to the neighborhood.
