Indian filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, recognized for directing crime thrillers such as 'Kaante' and 'Zinda,' died at age 59 after a fall at his Mumbai residence on October 30, Variety reported.

Gupta's death was confirmed by director Milap Zaveri, who noted that Gupta hit his head in the fall. The incident was investigated by Mumbai police, who filed an accidental death report, according to the Free Press Journal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Purushottam Karad stated that Gupta's family discovered the incident the following morning and did not raise any suspicion or complaints.

Gupta was known for bringing a Hollywood-influenced visual style to Hindi crime thrillers, a genre traditionally dominated by melodrama and musicals. His career began in 1994 with 'Aatish: Feel the Fire' and included collaborations with actor Sanjay Dutt across ten films.

One of Gupta's notable successes was the 2002 film 'Kaante,' which featured Amitabh Bachchan and contributed to his reputation in the Indian film industry.
