Jalen Williams has successful surgery on fractured fibula and ankle
OKC Thunder's Jalen Williams underwent surgery and will be re-evaluated before the end of the 2026-27 regular season.
Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured left fibula and reconstruct ligaments in his ankle, Yahoo Sports reported. The injury occurred during the team's third game of the season in a home win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Williams sustained the injury after a collision with Kris Dunn during a driving layup attempt, causing him to land awkwardly on his left leg, according to Yahoo Sports. He was subsequently carted off the floor and faced a lengthy recovery period.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Martin O'Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, with Thunder medical personnel present, Yahoo Sports noted. Williams is expected to be re-evaluated before the end of the 2026-27 regular season, leaving open the possibility of a return before the playoffs.
Williams, 25, had a challenging previous season limited to 38 games due to wrist surgeries and hamstring strains, Yahoo Sports added. Another Thunder player, Cason Wallace, also suffered a torn labrum and is set to undergo surgery, with his return timeline yet to be determined.
The Thunder's official statement confirmed the successful surgery and the plan for re-evaluation before the season's end, as reported by Yahoo Sports. This update provides clarity on Williams' status as the team navigates injuries early in the season.
