Johnston-Willis Hospital expanding brain and spine center with $24M investment
The Chesterfield hospital will add advanced MRI and combine two minimally invasive brain treatments under one roof.
Johnston-Willis Hospital in Chesterfield is investing over $24 million to expand its Brain and Spine Center, aiming to provide advanced care for patients with neurological conditions, WTVR reported.
The expansion will include a specialized MRI machine and upgrades to equipment for two minimally invasive procedures: gamma knife treatment and focused ultrasound therapy, according to WTVR and NBC12.
Dr. K. Singh Sahni, chairman of neuroscience at Johnston-Willis, said this will be the first center worldwide to combine these two technologies in one location, enhancing treatment options for brain tumors, tremors, and Parkinson’s disease, NBC12 reported.
The project also seeks to reduce patient wait times and open possibilities for future treatments, including potential management of Alzheimer’s disease and currently untreatable brain tumors, according to NBC12.
Construction on the neuroscience center expansion has begun and is expected to be completed by next summer, NBC12 noted.
Patients like Bobby Young, who experienced significant improvement after focused ultrasound treatment at Johnston-Willis, illustrate the impact of these advanced therapies, WTVR reported.
