Tyree Reynolds indicted on 29 counts in Baltimore shooting that killed 12-year-old
A senior MONSE official supported Reynolds' sentence modification request before the fatal Leon Day Park shooting.
Tyree Reynolds faces a 29-count indictment, including first-degree murder, after police say he opened fire at Leon Day Park in Baltimore, killing 12-year-old Khloe Ishway and injuring four others, FOX45 Baltimore reported.
Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates stated prosecutors will seek life without parole if Reynolds is convicted of first-degree murder, according to FOX45.
Prior to Reynolds' release from prison, a senior official from the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE), Mark Mason, wrote a letter supporting Reynolds’ request for sentence modification, FOX45 reported.
Mayor Brandon Scott clarified that Mason was not authorized by MONSE leadership to write the letter, which was written on MONSE letterhead, calling it an unapproved action, FOX45 said.
Law enforcement analyst Jason Johnson told FOX45 that Mason’s use of government letterhead made the letter inappropriate, distinguishing it from a private citizen’s letter of support.
The letter stated Mason would not advocate for Reynolds if he was a violent offender and that MONSE would work with him upon release, but the subsequent shooting has brought renewed attention to the letter and MONSE’s role.
