Keisha Lance Bottoms begins transition as Georgia's governor-elect
Keisha Lance Bottoms, Georgia's governor-elect, launches transition team aiming to govern from day one.
Keisha Lance Bottoms, recently elected as Georgia's governor, has announced the launch of her transition team as she prepares to take office. According to Atlanta News First, Bottoms, a Democrat and former Atlanta mayor, won the election with 54.3% of the vote, defeating Republican Rick Jackson.
Bottoms will be the first Black woman to serve as governor in U.S. history. She named her transition effort 'Georgia’s Promise,' emphasizing readiness to govern from the first day in office, well before her inauguration.
Her transition team includes honorary members such as U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, and Public Service Commission member Peter Hubbard. Outgoing Governor Brian Kemp has pledged a smooth transition and confirmed he will not call a special session to redraw political districts or limit executive powers before Bottoms assumes office.
Bottoms described the election results as a clear choice by Georgians for a government that works for everyone. Her victory is part of a larger trend of Democratic successes in Georgia, including flipping the state House while Republicans retain the Senate majority.
