Two skydivers die after midair collision in Riverside County
Two skydivers collided about 50 feet above ground and died after being rushed to hospital in Riverside County.
Two skydivers were killed Friday in Riverside County after reportedly colliding in midair just 50 feet above the ground, KTLA 5 reported.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 20000 block of Cereal Street around 11:47 a.m. following reports of an air emergency, according to sheriff’s Lt. Deirdre Vickers.
Witnesses at the scene told a news stringer the skydivers collided about 50 feet above the ground. Both victims were found receiving medical attention and were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where they later died, Vickers confirmed.
Emergency personnel from Cal Fire, Riverside County Fire Department, and American Medical Response also responded. An air ambulance was initially requested but ground transport was used due to the helicopter’s estimated arrival time.
An airport representative said operations would resume once the scene was cleared. Authorities have not released the identities of the skydivers or confirmed what caused the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
